I have come to the conclusion that any report with your name on it needs to be dumped into the Trash Can. According to reports that your organization has posted or supplied “data” for labels me as a member of a “hate group.”

I can assure you that I am in no means full of hate. Anger towards the Federal Government that no longer recognizes the chains of the Constitution? Yes, very much so.

Bush passed the Patriot Acts and now Obama is pushing for this health care bill that according to Jefferson and Madison: neither are Constitutional.

I suspect the “truth” here is that your organization needs to find “Hate Groups” for your funding to survive. Everyone needs to be a racist or full of hate for you to exist. I do see a conflict of interest here.

Yes, no doubt there is a lot of anger out in the general public. Could you consider that this anger is generated by the actions of the Government (starting around the banker bailouts) and not of any racial origin? Of course you would not! You can’t admit the anger is a justified one.

I do hope in time, people will realize it is organization like yours that actually causes more racial extremism than solves, funding to vanish and your organization to disappear into the sands of time.

Massachusetts being one of the most liberal states in the country just elected a Republican for Senator. Democrats held that seat for 58 years since John F. Kennedy defeated Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. Scott Brown defeated Martha Coakley on a platform that he will fight health care.

What does this mean for Health Care? The Democrats? The Republicans? The political climate in general?

Brown’s victory strips the Democrats of the Super Majority in the senate that they previously enjoyed. Any changes made to the Senate version of the bill during conference will have to be voted on again.

With Brown’s win, it’s unlikely the bill will pass now. Democrats talked about getting the House to pass the Senate bill. However, the Senate bill has many provisions that isn’t popular with House members. Some have speculated that the votes are not in the House to flat out pass the Senate version.

President Obama suggested that the Health Care Bill might need to be scaled back. “I would advise that we try to move quickly to coalesce around those elements of the package that people agree on,” Obama said on ABC News.

However, the Democrats have fallen into the same trap that the Republicans did during the Bush Administration. The fact that your party controls Congress and the White House doesn’t mean that Americans totally accept your political aims.

A Little History…

In 2006, Democrats gained control of Congress mostly from a strong anti-war mood in the country. From 2006 to 2008, Democrats did very little to challenge President Bush’s foreign policies.

In 2008, then Senator Obama separated himself from Senator Clinton for his stance against the Iraq “War.” Later, he easily defeated Senator McCain for President. Again, McCain appeared to be a Bush Clone which the country rejected.

Some Democrats made bold claims that this election was a mandate for Democratic Party philosophy. They never really consider that this wasn’t so much Pro-Democrat/Obama views but more an Anti-Bush mood.

However a few months earlier, Obama and McCain BOTH voted for the Banker Bailout Bill. Polls showed that this bill was very unpopular with Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike. However, Washington with it’s typical elitist attitudes “knew” what was best for us. Yeah right!

A lot of Americans were also upset about how much this bill was rammed quickly through Congress without much review or transparency. Senator Obama stated then that under his Presidency, he would be more transparent.

However, President Obama has kept a lot of the same policies towards banks that President Bush did. (Not to mention his economic team has the same Goldman Sachs ties that Bush’s’ people had. More about Timmy-Gate later)

(To be fair as I type this, President Obama is on the TV talking about his new plans to regulate the Financial Industry, but I’m not holding my breath. These are the same people who donated the most to his campaign.)

The stimulus bill was also pushed through the Democratic controlled government. The bill was popular among Democrats and Keynesians. However, the bill didn’t garner much support from Republicans and Independents.

Last year, the House rammed through Cap and Trade on the last day before Fourth of July break. This bill was only popular among Democratic Voters. Again, no real transparency.

The Health Care Bill again being rammed through without much popular support among the American People particularly among the Independent voters. Senator Reid playing deal maker behind the scenes trying to stir up support. Some of the backdoor deals only upsets the populace more. (The Nebraska exception being an example which even embarrassed citizens of Nebraska as well.)

Another problem, polls show that people are more concerned about the economy and jobs. The Democrats just spent a year focusing on Health Care and still may fail passing it even with majority. (I would suggest if some version of Health Care still passes will not be liked by any group.) So they used all this political capital on Health Care instead of focusing on the economy.

President Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize, but for what? His campaign promised to bring our boys home quickly, but turned in the same “two” or “three” year promise that Bush continued to make. Obama added more troops to Afghanistan. Sent drone attacks into Pakistan, and now making a lot of noise about Yemen. Wow, something that some Republicans can actually support Obama, but again unpopular with Democrats and Independents.

SO how does Scott Brown’s victory tie into this???

I think even in one of the most liberal states, Massachusetts would elect a Republican is a statement, but what is that statement??? We hate Democrats? I don’t think so. We support the Republican agenda?? Folks, this is Massachusetts for crying out loud.

Take another look at the examples above of “A Little History…”

Massachusetts does show how the Independents are upset. For the longest time, people claimed to be independent when they were upset with the party they originally belonged. However when push comes to shove, they would still vote for their old party.

However, the Independents are no longer loyal to anyone. They are a fickle lot now. In 2006, they were upset about the wars so they elected the Democrats. They were unhappy with Bush in 2008 and elected Obama. Do they support the Obama agenda since his election? Massachusetts said no.

President Obama won the independent vote, but with his policies he has quickly lost that support.

The Republicans would be best serve also not to get cocky from this victory as a public mandate from the people. Even if they win big later this year in November. To both major parties, hear my warning…

Independents are not loyal to anyone.

Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) made comments stating that those that don’t support health care are members of “Aryan Support Groups” and “Fanatics.”

If you are a National Health Care supporter, you know that I disagree with you. Which is fine! This is what America is about. I’m not going to call you some leftist pinko. In the Farpoint Forums, Michael Riber and I had what I thought was a great discussion about the Health Care Debate where we didn’t resort to name calling. Michael is an European Socialist and proud of it. I can honestly say that Michael never called me a member of a “Aryan Support Groups.” However, US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse did on the Senate Floor.

Now, Senator Whitehouse doesn’t represent my state, but here is an email I sent his office. I won’t hold my breath for a reply.

Dear Senator,

I know that I don’t live in you state, but I felt I needed to respond to your comments about those who are not supporting the Health Care Bill are either "Aryans", birthers or fanatics.

I will say right now that I am neither a Republican or Democrat. President Bush disappointed me with his pro war views. (Which President Obama seems to adopt as well.)

I assure you, that I am not a member of a "Aryan Support Group" or some right wing fanatic. I just don’t believe that the Health Care Bill is Constitutional based on the writings of Jefferson, Franklin or Madison.

For a SENATOR to make a comment like this shows that you, sir, are in denial about the popularity of this bill. Every major poll now shows that majority of Americans don’t support this.

Like a majority of Americans don’t support Cap and Trade, the Banker Bailouts, and the Stimulus Bill.. but you in Washington with your elitist attitudes believes that we the people can’t possibly think for ourselves.

Btw… each bill I just listed is going to help the special interest groups without really helping the people on Main Street.

Something that the Democrat Party is SUPPOSE to stand for. You sir, and your fellow Democrats, AND members of the Republican Party who "represent" us in Washington are out of tune with the American People.

I would like to see all of you out of Washington. Senator, don’t get used to your chair to much. If you keep this attitude, you won’t sit in it much longer.

If you don’t believe me, check the polls on what Independents think of President Obama and the Democrat party.

I guess you should get your resume ready.

To be fair, I did make a couple of edits based grammar errors in my haste to send the Senator my reply, but the content is the same.

It might take a while to sink in, but the global warming cause is on the skids. Two issues are taking the whole project down: it is getting cooler not warmer (and hence the change of the rhetoric to a vague concern over "climate change"), and the email scandal of a few weeks back proved that this really is an opinion cartel with preset views not driven by science.

Oh sure, people are saying that climategate is not really very serious and is only being exploited by Fox News and the like. And it’s true that not all measures of global temperature show cooling and that the science can be complex.

On that basis, the New York Times urges us to ignore the outpouring. "It is also important not to let one set of purloined e-mail messages undermine the science and the clear case for action, in Washington and in Copenhagen."
Yes, a clear case. Come on. The whole political agenda of these people is now being seriously questioned. It is no longer a slam-dunk case that we are going to have world central planning in order to control the climate and protect the holy earth from the effects of industrialization. Oh, and tax us good and hard in the process.

But you know what is most tragic to me about this? This whole hysteria led to a fantastic diversion of energy on the left side of the political spectrum. Instead of working against war and the police state, issues on which the left tends to be pretty good, instincts were diverted to the preposterous cause of creating a statist system for global thermometer management.

The effort to whip everyone up into a frenzy over this began more than ten years ago. Every lefty fundraising letter harped on the issue, and demanded people commit their lives to it, explaining that if mother earth dies, then all is lost. It is a more important issue than all the rest, the litmus test to determine whether you are a friend or an enemy.

This made it very difficult for libertarians to cooperate with the left over the last years. Sure, there are some libertarian ideas for dealing with pollution, but none as compelling as central planning, and there was never any way that we would go along with that idea. The costs associated with dismantling industrial civilization outweigh even the worst-case global-warming scenario.

And methodologically, the whole thing was always nuts. If we can’t determine cause and effect now with certainty, how in the heck will we be able to determine it after the world state controls our carbon emissions, and impoverishes us in the process? No one will ever be in a position to say whether the policy worked or failed. That is not a good basis for enacting legislation.
Meanwhile, the left threw everything it had into this hysteria. Protests, letters, billions in spending, frenzy, moral passion, mania, witch hunts — you name it. You would swear that climate change was the issue of the millennium for these people.

Meanwhile, the police state has made unbelievable advances in the last ten years. We all live today in fear of the state’s "security" apparatus. Airports have become living chapters in a dystopian novel. The local police treat us like potential terrorists. Crossing the US border is becoming reminiscent of East Germany. You can’t go anywhere without your papers.

And where has the left been while the whole world is being Nazified? Worrying about my barbecue grill out back.

Then there is the war issue. The scary George Bush started war after war and kept them going to bolster his own power and prestige, creating as many enemies as possible through provocations and making up enemies if he had to. He funded a bubble that wrecked the economy and destroyed country after country in the name of justice and peace.

And what followed Bush? A president who repudiated this ghastly legacy? No, Obama is a supporter of the same wars and continues them, even ramps them up. Does the left consider him a bad guy? Not really. With a handful of exceptions, his critics on the left are friendly critics. They are glad to put up with this because he is willing to do their bidding on the climate change front.

You think Democrat politicians don’t exploit this? They surely do. In this sense, the climate issue is much like the pro-life cause on the right. If a politician pushes the correct buttons, it doesn’t matter what else they say or do. They are no longer looked at with a critical eye.

The American left has long forgotten its roots. As Arthur Ekirch has explained, the left sold its soul to the state with the New Deal. Whereas it once opposed regimentation and industrial management of society, it turned to support exactly that. War was the next issue to go. The New Left in the 1960s held out the hope of capturing some of that early love of liberty on the left, even the anarchist impulse, but the New Left didn’t last long. It was eventually swallowed up by machine politics.

The left today that supports world government to stop climate change bears little resemblance to the left of 100 years ago, which favored civil liberties and social liberality and was willing to do anything to end war. Now it has diverted its energies to a preposterously unworkable scheme based on pseudo-science. This is a terrible tragedy.

The left still has much to contribute to American public life. It can oppose the police state and the militarization of society. It can favor human liberty in most every area of life, even if it hasn’t made its peace with the free market. Most of all, it can oppose American imperialism. But before it recaptures the spirit of its youth, it has to get rid of the preposterous idea that it should support the total state to manage what every generation has always known is unmanageable.
