Yes, it’s been one year and what a year it has been over here at the AVFF headquarters. We want to thank all the listeners of our podcast and subscribers of our site, keep it up and spread the word. A View From the Fence Show 22: Open discussion and catching up

Hello all,

This is show 22 an open discussion show. And SKetkar’s back, yes he’s back and so is the nice studio environment, yay!

Show notes:

Ragman’s topic is North Korea. What to do with North Korea, as in what’s should the US response be to the recent missile testing and underground nuclear testing. What role should China play? Are North Korea and Iran the same when it comes to their approach regarding becoming a nuclear power? Should the US even be involved?
SKetkar’s Topic is Obama/Cheney and Guantanamo bay. Few weeks ago President Obama gave a speech regarding torture, terrorism and status of Guantanamo. Few minutes later former VP Cheney had a counter speech. Planned? Why is Cheney speaking up now? How is he speaking to? What’s his purpose? We torture… used enhanced interrogation techniques, what is right? What do we do with the prisoners in Guantanamo is it’s closed? Should they have any rights under US law?
Lambo’s short topic is the increase visibility of police aggression. The video of the ambulance getting pulled over and the EMT getting choked while a patient was in the ambulance waiting to be taken to the hospital. There have been many more cases lately and more videos on youtube. Are these the exceptions or has the advent of viral videos brought forth a dirty side of our local law enforcement?

Going on haitus

Hello all,

SKetkar here. We at A View From the Fence will be going on a short haitus. Think of it as end of season 1. We’ll back with fresh new episodes after May 10th. You maybe ask “why SKetkar”, “why are you leaving us”, well truth be told, I’m getting married in about a month, and as you can imagine, things are getting very busy at the SKetkar household. So my co-hosts Lambo and Ragman graciously agreed that we go on haitus until after the wedding. So there you have it.

Oh, we do have one show in the tank that I’ll post. Sorry if it sounds dated but it’s a good one.

Meet The New Boss, Same As the Old Boss

The erosion of American’s Civil Liberties under the Bush Administration was significant. The passing of the Patriot Acts, War Commissions Act, The John Warner Nation Defense Authorization Act and various Presidential Directives has restricted our movements and liberties.

President Obama was elected to bring change. Has he?

Candidate Obama’s first major issue he used very successfully against Hillary Clinton was the war in Iraq. He argued that her vote was a mistake and we should have never gone. Also, he would bring the troops home once elected.

A position very popular with Liberals and the Ron Paul Conservatives. President Obama announced that troops would be reduced in Iraq. However, he isn’t bringing them home as quickly as he campaigned for. He will move a lot of these troops into Afghanistan. Also, we will keep a force of 50,000 troops in Iraq until 2011. (Hmm, a year before reelection.)

There are blind Liberals who are amendable to this because this is Obama not Bush. Obama will save us! How Cow, Batman, It is Obama! He will defeat that Joker Bush! These folks are just as blind as the Neo Cons who thought and still think Bush did no wrong.

Funny how the Neo Cons are supporting Obama here. Who would have thought that?

President Obama announced he will close Guantanamo Bay within a year. Okay, will he say that again in a year? Interestingly according to the New York Times (Hardly a Conservative Rag), “the new administration will aggressively defend its ability to hold some detainees there.”

The same article also said that Obama Administration lawyers wrote, “The president has the authority to detain persons”. I have a question… What about Due Process?

The article from the NY Times continues:

In their court filing, Justice Department lawyers repeatedly cited the international law of war and its principle that “capture and detention of enemy forces” is authorized. But the filing made it clear that the Obama administration rejected arguments of detainees’ lawyers that it should sharply depart from many policies of the last seven years.

Again, I ask… What about Due Process?

I think well known rock band, The Who had it right.

Hello and welcome to A View From the Fence, where if someone doesn’t share your view, doesn’t mean that they’re wrong. This is a blog for the A View From the Fence podcast. It is political in nature with the view that all points of view should be represented with discussion being the key. This is not saying that the podcast won’t express it’s own ideas or opinions but the focus is on exploring all views with an open mind, and putting all the facts ahead of gut feelings and initial emotions. We believe that this allows for a far more productive discussion as well as path to fair, balance conclusion and even a possible solution. I hope everyone will tune in every two weeks for A View From the Fence.
