Hey Fencers!
The Texas House of Representatives has a resolution pending titled HCR 50. It asserts that Texas is Sovereign under the Tenth Amendment of the US Constitution. Texas has now joined a group of twenty plus states who have similar resolutions in their state legislatures.
Earlier, I wrote both my Texas House Representative Garnet Coleman and Texas State Senator Rodney Ellis encouraging their support of this House Resolution. Sadly, I did not save the letter for Representative Coleman, but I did save the one for Senator Ellis.
Here it is:
Senator Ellis,
I know the bill is in the House, but I do want to encourage your support for this resolution. The Federal Government has ignored the 10th Amendment to the Constitution long enough.
The State of Texas should join the other states who are also kicking similar bills around.
Senator, you have been in your position for a while. I am sure you have seen where the Federal Government has overstep their bounds.
Bush had both Patriot Acts, War Commissions Act, John Warner Act, various Presidential Directives… Illegal Wire Tapping.. Gitmo.. The FISA Bill…On and on..
Bush smacked us with a hard right-winged Neo-Con measures that ignored the 10th Amendment.
Has President Obama repealed any of these? No. He says he will close Gitmo this year. Will he? We have to see. He said he would bring our troops home from Iraq. He has pushed that promise back 2 years.
Plus, President Obama as a US Senator voted for the FISA bill.
We just endured 8 years of Bush Neo-Conservatism that ripped parts of the Constitution up. Now we have for at least for now, 4 years of Chicago style Neo-Liberalism under Obama.
Enough of the Neo-Cons and Neo-Libs!
Have you noticed that both BUSH and OBAMA are using fear tactics to achieve their goals?
We must pass these laws or the terrorists are going to get us. We must pass these laws or we will go into depression.
Sir, I know you are a Democrat, and you probably agree with Obama on certain philosophies.
However, you are also a State Senator of Texas and the 10th Amendment to the Constitution is quite clear.
Texas needs to join forces with the other states like New Hampshire, Hawaii, and Colorado reminding the Federal Government that it gets power from a coalition of States.
Thanks for your time.
